RW Firefighters Respond to Smoke-Filled Basement

No injuries were reported in incident

The responded to a report of a smoke-filled basement at in the building that houses Thursday evening.

According to Fire Chief Jim Van Goor, firefighters ripped open the walls of the basement at about 5:20 p.m. and cited an electrical problem as cause for the smokey conditions. There were no injuries reported in the building on Wilsey Square, he said.

Mac Murphy's had been holding its holiday party at the time of the call and a dozen patrons were forced outside briefly.

Police blocked both Wilsey and Garber Square for about a half hour as crews worked the scene. Train travel was not impacted, authorities said.
