Six GRHS Students Named 'Commended National Merit Scholars'

"Their hard work has certainly paid off," Glen Rock High School Principal John Arlotta said.

Glen Rock High School Principal John Arlotta announced Monday that six students have been named Commended Students in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Arlotta will present a letter of commendation from the high school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to the students, according to a news release from the district.

The students are Joshua Baik, Tony Tharakan, Miles Richardson, Katherine Dao, Julianne Carlin and Elena Andreou.

“We are always very proud of the accomplishments of our students,” Arlotta said. “In the case of these outstanding seniors, achieving this academic recognition on a national level is particularly impressive. Their hard work has certainly paid off.”

Nearly 34,000 commended students nationwide are recognized for their academic achievements. The students will not be moving on further in the 2013 competition for the National Merit Scholarship Awards.
