This Week in Patch: Celebrating the Pre-eminent Civil Rights Leader
The village holds its 29th annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
It may be a slow week for government with the village council not meeting until next week, but things are never dull in the village.
On our end, look for coverage of the planning board and community relations board meetings, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day honoring, the son of a president at , Ridgewood's new undersheriff, how Restaurant Week is going, a new program at the , and an increased look at the pedestrian strikes in the village.

Monday:
- The village, along with Glen Rock, will be honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and message for the 29th year. Things begin at 10 a.m. , then at 11:00 a.m. for a rally in the park followed by a march through the downtown. Things commence after the state's Public Defender, village resident at at 1 p.m.
- Schools are off and as it's a federal holiday, so is village government. There will be no sanitation pickup due to the holiday.
- Monday will also see Super Bowl-winning coach Tony Dungy at at 3:30 p.m. to sign his book You Can Be a Friend.
Tuesday:

- The planning board will again discuss the proposed, which has drawn heat from neighbors. Also on the agenda is the continued progress of Village Planner Blais Brancheau's effort to make an ordinance on low-income housing.
- A discussion and presentation on the in the district will take place on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the RHS Media Center.
- Ron Reagan, son of President Ronald Reagan will be at Bookends to sign his book My Father at 100. The event was rescheduled as the Christmas weekend blizzard forced a postponment.
- Sanitation collection on the East Side for Area 1 will be on Tuesday.
Wednesday:
- There will be a for the 40 participants providing feedback on what the school is doing well and where it can improve. Meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Education Center on Cottage Pl.
- The joint Glen Rock and Ridgewood Newly-appointed Ridgewood Police Capt. Jacqueline Lutchke will make a presentation on hate and bias crimes. The meeting will be held at Ridgewood Village Hall in the first floor Garden Room.
- East Side sanitation collection for Area 2 will be on Wednesday.
- If you're thirsty and want some tunes, head to blue grass or to for DJ Bryan Sean. It's $3 Drink Wednesday's at Blend as well.
Thursday:
- West Side sanitation collection will be in Recycling Area 3 on Thursday.
- A number of DJs will be at on Thursday night and there's no cover before 9 p.m. Oh, and there will be a mechanical bull for those that dare.
Weekend:
- East Side sanitation collection for Reycling Area 4 will be on Friday.
- Christ Church will be hosting Baritone Vladimir Lapin and pianist Janet Montroy, who will perform a program of Russian romances and popular Broadway music on the . The concert begins at 4 p.m. on Sunday
- At BF from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday is a with games, activities, raffles and some special performances. Psychologists and family therapists will be present to discuss modern society's impact on the family environment. How do we make families stronger? Show up on Sunday and find out.
