This Week in Patch: Council Meets, School Board to Again Discuss Fields Policy, Film Producer to Talk 'Anxiety Education'

Monday:

How late is too late for the ? Many say the proposed 10 p.m. time put forth by the Fields Committee is too late, while sport groups say it's necessary to help balance high demand and few facilities. [Updated]: The school board will discuss the issue again on Monday night at the board's public meeting at 7:30 p.m. but is unlikely to vote.

  • There will be another screening of the film Race to Nowhere at B.F. on-hand for a Q&A session at 7:30 p.m. Producer Vicky Ables is asking Ridgewood students to talk openly about possible education anxiety they may have in high-performing Ridgewood.
  • Psychiatrist Dr. Steve Wruble of The Venn Center on how parents can get more involved in their children's lives with best practices.
  • The Genealogy Society of Bergen County will hold its monthly meeting in the library at 7 p.m. to watch the documentary “Extraordinary Journey:  Eastern Europeans of North Eastern Pennsylvania.”
  • Sanitation collection will be on the West Side on Monday morning with recycling pickup for Area 1.

Tuesday:

The planning board will again meet to –specifically the impact a proposed demolition of a historic house and subsequent building of two homes on the 975 East Ridgewood Ave lot. The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall.

  • There will be a varsity track meet at 4:25 p.m. at the New York Armory in Washington Heights, Manhattan.
  • Sanitation collection will be on the East Side on Tuesday with recycling collection for Area 2.
  • Reader Rabbits Book Club for Grade 1 will be getting together at 4:00 p.m. As usual, there's also a reading to Nana and Papa at 10:00 a.m.
  • The American Red Cross on Godwin Avenue will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • If your youngster is signed up for the KidSafe Karate and Self Defense Awareness class put on by the Recreation Department, the next meeting is on Tuesday at Hawes Elementary School. Beginners go from 4:30 p.m. to 5:10 p.m. and colored belts from 5:20 to 6:10 p.m.
  • There will be a Super Science Saturday workshop from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m..

Wednesday:

The Ridgewood Village Council will meet for a work session meeting at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall.

  • Celebrate reading at the library for the . Some local readers and the RHS New Players will read up on the classic Seuss books. Yes, there will be cake as well! The event is at 4:00 p.m.
  • DJ Bryan Sean will be spinnin' at on Wednesday nights. You can enjoy the atmosphere with $3 drink specials.
  • Bulk refuse and battery, tires and metals pickup will be on The East Side.
  • Bring your 4th or 5th grader to the for Bookworms on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
  • We'll be profiling a Ridgewood kid with quite a resume as well as having a discussion a Mom Q&A.

Thursday:

Senior fun club Highlights in Leisure Time (H.I.L.T) is having a social at the Community Center at 12 p.m. on Thursday.

  • Teen Readers are Uniting and the TRU girls (grades 6 and 7) will be discussing Kiki Strike: Inside the Shadow City by Kristen Miller at 7:30 p.m. at the library.
  • The Venn Center will be covering a wide range of topics–from relating to your middle schooler to personal development.
  • Sanitation collection will be picked up on the West Side with recycling in Area 3 on Thursday morning.
  • It's Vibe Thursday at Blend which means specials on beer ($3 bottle or draft) and 'well' drinks ($4).
  • Patch will also be filling you in on some real estate looks as well as a tasty restaurant in your own backyard and a recap of the village government happenings.

The Weekend:

The Pro Art Chorale concert at West Side Presbyterian Church will be held at 8 p.m. There will be performances of Britten's "Canata Misericordium" and Haydon's "Lord Nelson Mass."

  • There will be an antiques show on Friday and Saturday at Christ Church. The 66th annual antiques show will be at Christ Church on Friday at 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food will be served both days.
  • Blend will host excellent NYC band The Unionn on Friday while wedding veterans The Rhythm Shop will rock the house on Saturday. There is a cover charge for each show.
  • A Mano will be hosting an with 4th generation Neapolitan master Antonio Starita at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The event is reservation only and is $10 per person.
  • Christ Church Youth Group will be getting together for Monster golf in Paramus at 11:30 a.m.
