Tuesday: Longtime Educators to Retire; Native Indie Guitarist to Tour UK

Four teachers have amassed nearly 80 years of experience; Real Estate guitarist is preparing to go pond-hopping.

1) The school district has received notice that four longtime teachers will be hanging up the pocket protectors after the end of this school year.

RHS Music teacher Henry Heyzer, with over ten years in the district, is retiring; Jill Dandorph, a learning disabilities consultant in Ridgewood will be leaving after ten years; 17-year special education teacher, Christine Meltzer, will be leaving. Meltzer worked at Sommervile.

Finally, a teacher whose career has spanned generations will be leaving. After a whopping 42 years in Ridgewood, Orchard Education Specialist Ann Walzcak will be retiring. All retirements are effective July 1.

2) The school board approved a $4.84 million dollar bid to JG Drywall LLC for the . To say the building lacks for space would be an understatement, according to Willard parents. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daniel Fishbein reported that overall, bids have been "very competitive." The district is $2.8 million under what it had budgeted and will be finishing bidding to the remaining referendum projects in the next few weeks.

3) Patch favorite and guitarist of , Ridgewood's Matthew Mondanile, 22, will soon be touring the UK. His one-man psychadelic pop project Ducktails will touch off in Manchester on March 31 and end in early August in London.

4) The planning board will again meet to –specifically the impact a proposed demolition of a historic house and subsequent building of two homes on the 975 East Ridgewood Ave lot. The board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Village Hall.

5) There will be a Super Science Saturday workshop from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. .
