Underage Drinking Party Ends in Alcohol Poisoning for Four Teens

A total of 29 were arrested after police broke up a teen party at Rock Road in Ridgewood last weekend.

Four teens were taken to Valley Hospital suffering from alcohol poisoning after cops busted an "out of control" party on Rock Road last weekend.

While conducting a motor vehicle stop in the early morning hours of Saturday, Glen Rock officer Greg Carter saw several teens fleeing the Ridgewood residence. He called for backup, where Ridgewood police found "two highly intoxicated juveniles" and then identified two others in need of medical attention. The four were taken to the hospital and later released.

Meanwhile – of those they could catch – police arrested 15 unnamed adults for underage drinking. Fourteen juveniles were also taken to headquarters and released to their parents' custody pending underage drinking charges.

Most of the students at the party were not from Ridgewood but from other areas in Bergen County, Cpt. Jacqueline Luthcke said. Police said only two of the participants arrested were from Ridgewood.

The homeowners were attending a college graduation that weekend and apparently did not know about the party.

Two revelers – a male from Rutherford and a female from Upper Saddle River – were charged with obstruction for allegedly refusing to follow instructions and provide their names. Police said the party organizers charged admission and had partiers wear wrist bands. Police are still investigating how the organizers obtained the "large quantity of alcohol."
