BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — Forecasters are tracking a tropical depression in the Atlantic that is expected to organize into Tropical Storm Imelda in the next few days. The storm is expected to skirt the southeastern states later this week, they say.

Hurricanes History In North Jersey

Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore directly in late October 2012, causing an estimated 30 deaths.

Not all storms have to be a direct hit to be damaging; the same number of people in New Jersey are estimated to have lost their lives during flooding from downgraded Tropical Depression Ida in 2021.
