Former Rabbi Moves On

Rabbi Helga Newmark, 79, of Hackensack, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. 

Helga was a Rabbi and was a graduate of Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion, in New York City and was ordained as a Rabbi in the year 2000. Rabbi Newmark as an educator and Rabbi served at Temple Sholom in River Edge, Temple Emanu-El in Westfield and Barnert Temple in Franklin Lakes. 

Rabbi Newmark was a well beloved and highly respected colleague to generations of Rabbis and, a noted speaker and resource in Holocaust Education and author of Letters To The Wise One Conversation With God.

Rabbi Newmark was a member of Temple Avodat Shalom in River Edge and the Central Conference of American Rabbis. Rabbi Newmark was a Holocaust Survivor. 

Beloved wife of the late Eric Newmark, devoted mother of Debbie Leffler and her husband Russell of Norwalk, OH, Carol Cohen and her husband Robert of Boonton, NJ and Edward Newmark and his wife Abbey of Avenel, NJ, cherished grandmother of Ben, Ellen, Martha and Joe Leffler and Jenna, Lisa and Michael Cohen and Ian and Ryan Newmark.

Donations in memory of Rabbi Newmark may be made to: Temple Avodat Shalom for the Holocaust Education Fund; The Jewish National Fund; or the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey for Disaster Relief.
