Members of the River Edge Fire Department responded to an early morning structure fire on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Upon arrival they were confronted with a second floor bedroom fire that had fully charged home with smoke.
Fortunately the seven residents, who were sleeping at the time, had escaped without injury, but only with the clothing on their backs. Smoke and fire had destroyed all their clothing and most of their possessions.
Through donations received from the residents of River Edge, and with the assistance of the NJ & NY Fireman’s Association, the borough fire department was able to provide monetary gift cards to each member of the family. These are redeemable at a local department store to help replace some of these lost items.
