Athletic Updates: May 11
A quick recap look at the Hawks and Crusaders athletic competitions.
Tuesday was a big day for Baseball as both Bergen Catholic and River Dell notched wins into their belts. In their home games, the Crusaders went seven innings against Kennedy for a 14-2 win while the Hawks decimated New Milford, 11-1 in five. BC's Mike Sutherland and RD's John Lavalle picked up their second win from the mound. Eight Crusaders batters took to the plate and blasted the ball with Toby Schwartz coming up with a trifecta (double, triple and home run). For the Hawks, Dylan Smith slammed a home run with Ryan Duran nailing a double and triple and Tim Barnes slapping a double down.
Off to a slow offensive start, the Lady Hawks softball squad shut out Cresskill, 4-0. River Dell didn't get on the board until a three run fourth inning with Jordan Bastable connecting on a double and a pair of triples.
Lady Hawks LAX may have been concerned about the second half of their season but have been showing the competition that they are the team to watch following their 11-10 upset of Pascack Valley. River Dell took a 4-1 lead in the first half and goalie Rebecca Myers (13) saves was able to stay the Indians 9-7 push in the second. Emily Wong netted four goals and Nadia Bousada had a hat trick. Tori Schettino, Caitlin Powers, Emily Lawler and Sam Kay each had one goal.
