A quick recap look at the Crusaders and Golden Hawks on the field

River Dell Golf competed in the Big North Conference, Patriot Division tournament this week and shot a 309 good for second place in the division.  Thomas Barnes won the individual title in the Patriot Division with a score of 69. The Hawks then defeated Pascack Valley 154-174 and in the process captured a share of the Big North Conference, Patriot Division title.  The team finished division play with a record of 11-1. Scott Kim shot a 34 and Thomas Barnes and Max Barnett each shot a 38 to help lead the Hawks to the win and the title.  The team’s overall record is 21-4.  On Monday, the team plays in the NJSIAA state sectional tournament at Rockleigh.

Lady Hawks Softball defeated DePaul on the road in the 10th inning Thursday. The Hawks rode another strong pitching performance from senior Chloe DeSanctis while Joan Marie Massaro and Sara Recanati each smacked a 2 run home run.  Recanati’s blast came in the top of the tenth inning proved to be the difference when DeSanctis held DePaul scoreless in the bottom of the tenth.  On Wednesday, Sara Recanati took the mound in the Lady Hawks 9-4 victory over the Fort Lee Bridgewoman. Jordan Bastable knocked in a triple and three RBI's while Amanda Walker whacked a triple. Lauren Turner's home run led her with 4 RBI's.

River Dell Baseball defeated Fort Lee Wednesday on the road, 17-5 with Bob Croonquist leading the charge from the mound. Glenn DeMarrais's double, Dave Crouch's triple and a pair of home runs by Tim Barnes gave the Hawks their five-inning victory.

Bergen Catholic Golf placed second in the United Division Big North Championship with a score of 296 at Valley Brook Golf Course in River Vale, just seven points behind Don Bosco. Freshman Erick Alonso finished second in the individual round with a 71 followed by Peter Repetto's fourth place with 72. But the Crusaders rebounded on Thursday with a 150 to 155 win over the Ironmen at Valley Brook Country Club. Alonos came in at par 35 followed by Harrison Shih and Peter Repetto's scores of 38 and Matt Love and Sean O'Neill's 39 points.

In the Bergen County Volleyball tournament, Bergen Catholic shut out the Teaneck Highwaymen, 25-19, 25-16, in a Bergen County tournament quarterfinal match. Junior outside hitter Brendan McCullagh accounted for 16 kills. But the Crusaders fell in the semi-finals, 25-18, 25-23 to Wallington.

The Crusaders baseball team dropped a tough 17-7 match to the Ramapo Raiders on Thursday. Kevin McAndrew struggled on the mound, letting up eight runs in the first inning. Eric Flanagan and Ryan Kelly's home runs and Dylan Reid's double were not enough to get a BC rally going.

At the Big North Track and Field United Division Championships, Bergen Catholic placed second with 81.5 points behind arch rival Don Bosco. Tarique Gray placed first in the 100m with 11.10 seconds and in second place in the 200m with a time of 22.40 seconds. In the long jump, Gray landed at 19-7 and a half feet for a third place finish.

Tyler Dilworth came in second in the 110HH with 15.58 but came back with a vengeance in the 400IH placing first in 56.05. Marty Shuering threw the shot put 46-10 and three quarters to come in third. John Tsimis landed in second place in the long jump with a 20-5 and a quarter feet. DJ Dixon took second place in the triple jump with 39-7 feet.

Crusaders Teddy DAmico (11 feet) and Michael Moore (10 feet) took first and second in the pole vault. BC's 4-x-400 relay team placed second with a time of 3:25.12
