Cops: Man Breaks Police Car Window After House Party Bust

Police from four different departments responded to the scene of a house party of over 50 juveniles where underage drinking was taking place

Police officers from four different departments responded to the scene of a large party on Saturday night in Rumson, which culminated in a police cruiser window being busted, and a teenage party-goer being arrested for disorderly conduct and other similar charges.

According to Rumson Detective Christopher Isherwood, Rumson Police Sergeant Damien Brennan and Patrolman James Fenn discovered a party with underage drinking taking place at a home on Rumson Road at approximately 10:48 p.m. Due to the amount of people present, officers from Sea Bright, Fair Haven, and Little Silver assisted at the scene.

Approximately 50 juveniles were located in the home, as well as one of the homeowners. Numerous bottles of alcohol and cases of scattered beer cans, both opened and unopened were observed by officers, according to Isherwood. Kieran Doherty, an 18-year-old male from Rumson, was arrested for disorderly conduct by Patrolman James Fenn. He was subsequently charged with obstruction of the administration of the law for providing false information, and criminal mischief for breaking a window in the rear of the police vehicle. Doherty was released on $7500 bail set by Judge Richard Thompson.

All juveniles present were released to a parent or guardian, Isherwood said.

An arrest is not a conviction, and every defendant is presumed innocent until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
