Getting Flocked by Rumson's Police Chief

Scott Paterson says he hasn't been caught flocking around yet as he raises money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Wanna get flocked by Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson?

It's a likely occurrence lately. The chief has been seen flocking around in the Rumson-Fair Haven area — and right on people'e front lawns.

"I haven't been caught yet," said Rumson's top cop. But there's always a first time.

Even if he does get caught, Paterson doesn't mind. It's all for a good cause — a Susan G. Komen Foundation breast cancer fundraising effort.

What he's been flocking around with is a bunch of pink flamingoes — pink for breast cancer awareness, of course. But there's a method to this sort of madness of pulling in cash for a cure.

Knowing the last thing that a well manicured lawn owner might welcome is a flock of pink flamingoes for some curb appeal, the chief is all the more willing and waiting to flock some people up. That's because when someone calls and asks him to "flock" them or a neighbor, he heads over to the lawn and blankets it with the plastic pink birds. Here's the fundraising rub: If you want them removed, you have to fork over some donation money.

It's all part of a sponsorship for the Susan G. Komen Foundation's October three-day Philadephia Race for a Cure in which Paterson will participate.

"It's fun and it's a great cause," he said.

So, the chief advises people to get flocked and now! See him at the police station about it. And, if you've already been flocked or want to be flocked, you can catch him and pay up at the PD.

In the meantime, take a look at the video above for a glimpse into Chief Paterson's day of flocking around.
