Longtime Fair Havenite, John Winters, Dies at 67

Services begin on Sunday.

Longtime Fair Haven resident John W. Winters died at his home, surrounded by family, on Aug. 1 at 67.

Born in Red Bank to the late Albin and Mary Anne Feigenwinter on March 7, 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy during the during the Vietnam conflict.

John raised his family in Fair Haven while working at the Little Silver Post Office. After retiring from the postal service, he worked at Shop Rite in West Long Branch and assisted his son, Ryan, in building a successful local landscaping business bearing the family name.

John was incredibly hard-working and enjoyed spending what leisure time he had with his family and walking in the woods with his dear dog, Maddie.

"Pop" was adored by his eight grandchildren. He had a keen intelligence and liked to keep up on current events. John was a quiet man, but friendly and welcoming to all who had the pleasure of getting to know him. Those who did quickly appreciated his wit and dry sense of humor.

John is survived by: his wife of 42 years, Colleen; his children and their spouses, Ryan and Kristen Winters, of Rumson, Jamie and Courtney Winters, of Fair Haven, Shawn and Erin Winters, of Port Monmouth, and Tiffany and Marcus Onni, of West Long Branch; his sister, Grace Warren; and grandchildren, Caden, Nolan and Kellen Winters, James and John Winters, Emma and Lindsay Winters and Logan Onni.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 from 2 to 4 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, Aug. 5, at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown.
