Weather Quest, BOE Meeting and Lobster

It's what's going on Wednesday in the Rumson-Fair Haven area.

Well, happy … Na, I'm not gonna say it. It's just not right. Ahem. Let's try again. Happy middle-of-the-week, clear Wednesday, R-FH friends and fans!

Yes, the forecast is for clear skies today. But, ya never know, considering yesterday's was all botched up. Pardon my little rant, but perhaps you feel the same way. That mystical "weatherman" is full of bunk!

It was supposed to rain all day yesterday, with spot thunderstorms in the afternoon, but there was nary a drop. OK, it was raining in the middle of the night. But, that's not the afternoon. How's a person supposed to plan? Alright, you got me. You can't plan news. It just happens ... sometimes.

So does weather … sometimes. See, I've envisioned this elusive, omniscient "weatherman" as this sort of scary troll character wielding a Trilogy of Terror hatchet having a temper tantrum on the clouds when he feels like putting a crimp in earthlings' day and parting them sometimes when he's supposed to … if the mood strikes.

Never mind Storm Field or the National Weather Service. It's that troll who's doing all this. So, I think you'll all be with me when I say for today, "OK, troll, throw a tantrum on a rain cloud today or turn up the humidity again and I'll knock you right off your little troll cloud pedestal! We have things to do around here!"

OK, I'm done. No need to call the men in the white coats ... unless they're taking me to a place where the weather's perfect.

It's going to be clear and mostly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees, according to the troll … I mean National Weather Service.

Activities …

They're down by the river next door in Red Bank, holding River Rangers boating out of Maple Cove.

The Mental Health Association (MHA) wants people to know that they're gearing up for the Tee Off for Our Patriots Golf Classic on Monday, Aug. 12. For more information, click here.

Fair Haven Recreation people are also getting set for the annual camp-out at Fair Haven Fields on Friday night. We'll have more on that later, just so you know.

Also, there's always fishing at the river and that's free. That reminds me, we have to find out what's going on with crabbing. Catching anything, anyone?

Foodie fun …

Booskerdoo is featuring some interesting things lately, like chai scones, Earl Grey loaf and strawberry rhubarb mini pies. Mmmm.

And next door in Red Bank, Boondocks Fishery is having its lobster night again, featuring two lobsters, corn and potatoes for $24.95.

Of course, Val's Tavern always has its lobster pizza for another lobster option.
For some Red Bank special options, click here.

Meetings …

The Fair Haven Board of Education is meeting at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Knollwood. Word has it that there will be a welcome of sorts for the new principal. We'll keep you posted.

And, if you were thinking of going to the Rumson Board of Ed meeting, forget it. It has been cancelled. The next meeting, according to the Rumson School District website, is slated for Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the usual place, the Higgins Library at Forrestdale.

Coming up …

Well, we're revealing Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson's little secret later today.

We're also checking in at a business to be revealed for its longtime charm. And, yes, we'll be updating you on those 70s RFH reunions. There will be some Sea Bright updates.

In the meantime, read up on what we have on the site today.

Oh, and the grad in yesterday's pic was none other than Greg McGrade after the R-FH Run. Just what was he saying, though? Come on, offer up that caption.

Check out the pic today and, come on, give us a caption for it!

Let us know if we've missed anything. In the meantime, see ya around the towns ...
