2-Alarm Fire Destroys Home In Union County

Firefighters remained on scene for around six hours while fighting heavy fire conditions and difficult access.

FANWOOD, NJ — A two-alarm fire ripped through a home in Scotch Plains early Saturday morning.

On the night of June 6, at around 11 p.m., a Scotch Plains Police Officer noticed a smoke condition on the North Side of Town.

Scotch Plains Fire and police couldn't find the source or origin of the smoke. The scene was cleared after no immediate fire threat was identified, said Scotch Plains Police Captain David Lavery.

At around 2:30 a.m. on June 7, a resident on Roberts Lane reported a structure fire at a home on Acacia Road.

The Scotch Plains Fire Department and Fanwood Fire remained on scene for around six hours while fighting heavy fire conditions and difficult access, said Fanwood Fire Department.

A thorough search of the residence confirmed that no one was inside at the time of the fire. No one was injured during the event, said Lavery.

After processing the scene, the fire has not been deemed suspicious by the Union County Fire Investigation Task Force, and the investigation is closed.
