2 Vehicles Stolen In Fanwood Over Past Week, Police Say
Police said suspects "act on opportunity" in looking for unlocked or running cars to steal.
FANWOOD, NJ — Fanwood Police are reminding residents to lock their cars after two recent vehicle thefts in the borough.
Police said one vehicle was left running while the owner went into a store, and the other was taken from an unlocked garage. Car thieves "act on opportunity," Fanwood Police said, and officers urge residents to lock cars, take key fobs inside, and remove valuables from your car at night.
Suspects "sit in parking lots waiting for someone to leave their car running," police said. "They walk down the street to see what car doors are unlocked so they can steal the valuables inside. They can tell when cars are unlocked because the side mirrors remain facing out instead of automatically facing in when locked (on certain vehicles)."
