College Board Honors 7 Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Seniors

The College Board National Recognition Program is aimed at awarding honors to underrepresented students who have succeeded academically.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — College Board recognized seven Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School students for its 2021-2022 National Recognition Program, which is aimed at awarding underrepresented students who have achieved academic success.

The students who received this recognition must demonstrated high academic achievement in PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10 or AP Exams to be considered for the awards.

The four recognition programs include the National African American Recognition Program, National Hispanic Recognition Program, National Indigenous Recognition Program and National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program.

According to College Program, the program helps "create pathways to college for students from underrepresented communities by awarding them academic honors and connecting them to universities across the country."

“We are proud of these students for excelling academically and being recognized nationally by the College Board National Recognition Program,” Superintendent Dr. Joan Mast said. “On behalf of the district’s teachers and staff, I want to congratulate these students and encourage them to continue shining in college and beyond.”

The awardees from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School are as follows:

National Hispanic Recognition Program

  • Isabella Segarra – will attend Brown University
  • Jazlyn Navarro Jimenez – will attend Harvard University
  • Lucas Vega - will attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
  • Kayla Morrow - will attend Clemson University
  • Yasmin Ulerio - undecided

National Indigenous Recognition Program

  • Isaiah Nathaniel – will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology

National African American Recognition Program

  • Isaiah Nathaniel
  • Yasmin Ulerio
  • Chloe Howell – will attend University of San Diego
