Fanwood Third Grader Gets Key To The Borough For Fundraising Efforts
The McGinn Elementary School student raised money for the fire department at her family's store, John's Meat Market in Scotch Plains.
FANWOOD, NJ - One of Fanwood’s youngest residents has been honored for her big fundraising efforts.
Alexa Scolavino, a third grader at McGinn Elementary School, was recognized at a recent Fanwood Borough Council meeting for raising nearly $200 for the Fanwood Fire Department in November. In recognition of her good deed, Council President Jeff Banks presented Scolavino with a honorary key to the city, as well as a certificate of recognition and Fanwood pin.
Scolavino raised the funds - $190 to be exact - by selling hot chocolate in her family's store, John's Meat Market in Scotch Plains, borough officials said.

The money has since been allocated for new accountability tags, used to track firefighters working in dangerous conditions.
“I was so touched and moved by that, I felt that this was the appropriate place to say thank you for doing that,” Fire Chief John Piccola said. “When you talk to young ladies and young men like yourself, you can tell they were raised right … Your parents are wonderful people. I can’t express enough how much I appreciate it.”
