Local Seventh Graders to Participate in UnitedHealthcare, Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA Health Bee

Seventh grade students test their knowledge of science in the second annual UnitedHealthcare Health Bee.

It’s time for local seventh grade students to brush up on the knowledge in science as they participate in the UnitedHealthcare second annual Health Bee this week.

The Health Bee will take place on Tuesday, April 28, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA 1340 Martine Ave. in Scotch Plains.

Students from Kumpf Middle School, Park Middle School, St. John Middle School and Terrill Middle School will participate in the Jeopardy-style quiz contest designed to get middle school students excited about health, fitness and nutrition, a press release from UnitedHealthcare said.

According to the release, the UnitedHealthcare Health Bee has become an integral part of the Fanwood Scotch Plains Y’s 7th Grade Initiative, which aims to help pre-teens build healthy habits at a critical time in their development.

The winning team will be awarded $1,000 for their school to support programs to combat childhood obesity the organization said. Second place will receive $500 and the school that demonstrates the most school spirit will get $250.
