Once again, New Jersey schools are feeling the impact of COVID-19. We are aware that COVID-19 surges have prompted a switch to remote learning or temporary half days for some New Jersey schools.

We are working closely with the Department of Health to monitor cases in our own district while vigilantly following the New Jersey Department of Health guidelines in all our buildings.

The data supports keeping Scotch-Plains Fanwood schools open until winter break begins on Friday, December 24. Any changes to the district schedule would be made in conjunction with the Department of Health and only after careful consideration. We know how important it is for our schools to be open for our students. We aim to provide a safe and uninterrupted learning environment – those goals go hand-in-hand.

Our administrators will continue coordinating with school nurses and other health professionals as we enter the holiday season and new year. We encourage parents and guardians to contact their school’s nurse to report any potential symptoms and to remind their children of healthy practices to follow in and out of school.

The Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools takes safety seriously and prioritizes the best interest of its students, parents, and staff. We appreciate your support as we continue navigating these challenging times.

Sincerely,
Dr. Joan MastSuperintendent of Schools
