Union Catholic Track Star Sydney McLaughlin Stars In New ESPN Ad

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A familiar Olympic gold medalist who graduated from Union Catholic High School starred in a new ESPN commercial on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Sydney McLaughlin is featured in a "This Is SportsCenter" ad called "Seconds," in partnership with Arts & Letters Co. The commercial debuted during the 259th Duke vs. North Carolina men’s basketball game.

In the commercial, SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm asks McLaughlin if she has any time to catch up. McLaughlin replies, "Yeah, I’ve got 51.46 seconds right after lunch, or I’ve got 51.41 seconds later this afternoon. Oh, wait, I have 50.68 seconds right now!"

For those who don't know, these numbers represent significant achievements in McLaughlin athletic career.

The 23-year-old won gold at the Tokyo Olympics in the 400m hurdle record with a time of 51.46 seconds, breaking her own previous record. She then broke the world record at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by running the 400m hurdle in 51.41 seconds.

She broke her 400m hurdle record again at the 2022 World Athletics Championship, with a new time of 50.68 seconds.

McLaughlin is a 2017 graduate of Union Catholic Regional High School in Scotch Plains.

Originally from Dunellen, McLaughlin now lives in Los Angeles. She was recently featured on the cover of "The Knot" where she spilled details on her engagement to NFL player Andre Levrone Jr.
