Secaucus Resident Fatally Hits Man On Rt. 3 Last Week
In what police say was an accident, a Secaucus resident hit and killed a Monmouth County man attempting to walk across Rt. 3 at night:
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — In what police say was an accident, a Secaucus resident hit and killed a Monmouth County man who was trying to walk across Rt. 3 last Thursday night.
The man, 33 and from Aberdeen Township, was hit after last Thursday night's NY Giants game at MetLife Stadium. East Rutherford Police said they got the 911 call at midnight.
He was hit by a car while he was attempting to cross Rt. 3 on foot, said East Rutherford Police Capt. Jeff Yannacone. He was hit on Rt. 3 east near a service road.

He was hit by a Toyota Camry headed east on Rt. 3, and the driver of the Toyota Camry is a Secaucus resident.
"(It was) a horrible accident on Rt. 3 after the Giants game," said Bill Daily, another driver on Rt. 3 at the time who witnessed the entire thing. "A man was crossing Rt. 3 and was hit. He ended up in the middle lane of traffic and was struck by oncoming vehicles. Frantic drivers pulled over trying to warn oncoming traffic. I avoided hitting (him) by mere inches, but it was an unforgettable night and traumatic experience."

East Rutherford Police said they will not be releasing the name of the Aberdeen man, nor are police releasing the name of the Secaucus resident who fatally struck him, as no charges or summons were filed against him.
"No charges have been filed and the accident is still under investigation," said Yannacone.
It is illegal to walk across Rt. 3 on foot, and police have given people tickets for walking or riding a bicycle on Rt. 3. However, people often walk on Rt. 3 service roads around the football stadium.
*Patch originally reported this happened on a service road off Rt. 3 near the stadium. That was incorrect. The man was fatally struck on Rt. 3 east, near a service road.
