SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Local authorities released a photo Thursday of one of several suspects tied to an ATM fraud scheme across the state.

30 victims have been identified thus far in South Brunswick, “with many more throughout NJ,” South Brunswick police said.

“We are investigating potential fraud affecting certain PNC ATMs,” PNC Bank said in a statement. “Any customers who notice suspicious activity on their accounts should contact us right away using the number listed on the back of their PNC ATM card or on our website at www.pnc.com.”

CBS News reports that police believe the suspects are using skimming devices to take information from victims’ bank cards at banks around the state.

Skimming occurs when a device is used at an ATM card slot to read personal data during transactions. The same data is then transferred to blank ATM cards, which are used to make illegitimate transactions.

Most of the withdrawals associated with the scheme range between $300 to $400.

Authorities in at least six counties have reported similar thefts, CBS News reported.

The South Brunswick Police Department is currently working with several other law enforcement agencies on the matter. Read more: Residents Targeted By ATM Theft, Fraud In South Brunswick: Police
