Drunk Driver Involved In Hit-&-Run In South Brunswick: PD

The driver's blood alcohol concentration was nearly four times above the legal limit, police said.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ – A 64-year-old New York man was charged after he rear ended another vehicle and left the scene while being impaired, South Brunswick police said.

On Tuesday, at 4:40 p.m., police received a call of a hit-and-run crash on Friendship Road at Route 130. The caller told police he was stopped on Friendship Road when he was rear-ended by a U-Haul truck.

He said the U-Haul truck continued onto Route. 130 north and he was following it. The driver of the U-Haul eventually pulled into the parking lot of a business off Route 130 near Ridge Road, police said.

Officer Dale Hubner saw that the U-Haul driver Gerald Bahr had a medical band on his wrist and found that he was released from a hospital earlier in the morning from a crash in a different town on Nov. 8.

According to investigation, Bahr was impaired and the officer conducted field sobriety tests. Bahr was placed under arrest for DWI.

He was taken to South Brunswick Police Headquarters where a breathalyzer test was conducted. It was revealed that Bahr’s blood alcohol concentration was nearly four times above the legal limit, police said.

Bahr was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He was issued numerous motor vehicle summonses including DWI, careless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident. He has a future court date in November.

The other driver in the crash was uninjured, police said.
