Investigation into Fatal Route 1 Crash Ongoing

Authorities said a 37-year-old Pennsylvania man was killed after his vehicle was struck from behind at a red light by a tractor trailer.

Authorities are still investigating an early morning motor vehicle crash that killed a Pennsylvania man on Route 1 Friday.

Javier Antonio Torres, 37, of Fairless Hills, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 4:19 a.m. at the intersection of Route 1 north and Blackhorse Lane.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office said that Torres was stopped at a red light on Route 1 while operating a 2011 Nissan Versa, when a tractor-trailer, driven by Kevin Plante, 56, of Harrisville, R.I., failed to stop and crashed into the rear of Torres' vehicle.

The northbound lanes of the roadway were shut down as officers investigated the incident, which caused four to five mile traffic backups throughout the morning.
