Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard.

This submission comes from Karen who nominated Courteney of South Brunswick. Karen, who is Courteney's aunt, said the student athlete is a king and strong "young lady with a competitive edge."

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Courteney has blossomed into a wonderful caring young lady with a competitive edge and a go-getter attitude that knows no limits. Everything she sets her mind to, she achieves. As documented in her Rutgers bio, Courteney is currently a graduate student at Rutgers who not only has broken all sorts of records for the school during all of her prior years, but continues to bring prestige to Rutgers track and field program during her graduate program years. Courteney was recently named to the Team Puerto Rico Olympic team and will represent proudly during the Paris Olympics 2024. Alongside her drive to achieve, she is a very giving person. Courteney loves children and I have witnessed her patience and teaching nature around them. Further, her love and support for family, friends and teammates never waivers. Over the years, Courteney has experienced several personal tragic events but she has triumphantly persevered as a testament to her faith and family values. As a student-athlete, Courteney has continued to maintain close to a 4.0 GPA and that's no easy feat, especially in graduate school for clinical psychology. She is a huge supporter of women's collegiate sports and promotes Rutgers every chance she gets locally and internationally. She truly is a phenomenal woman.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star student athlete?

Don't mistake her kindness for weakness. She's the strongest young lady I know.

Keep up the great work, Courteney!
