Man Seriously Injured in ATV Crash on Culver Road

Victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and struck his head on a concrete ramp.

An ATV crash Sunday evening left the driver in serious condition after he was thrown from the vehicle and struck his head on a concrete ramp.

At 7:22 p.m. yesterday, police received a 911 call reporting the crash on private property off Culver Road. Police said the driver of the ATV, a 28-year-old male, had permission to use the ATV on the property at the time of the crash. 

The driver was injured when he accelerated his 2007 Yamaha Raptor 700R down a long stone driveway and lifted the front wheels of the vehicle, causing it to veer to the left and strike a metal object.

The driver was ejected from the ATV and was thrown about 25 feet. The man's head then struck the side of a concrete ramp, police said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to police, but he was conscious and able to speak with arriving officers. 

The driver was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by the Monmouth Junction First Aid Squad and paramedics. He was listed in serious condition as of Sunday night.

The crash is being investigated by the South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau.

The was the first serious ATV accident in South Brunswick since 2011. in an ATV accident near Davidson Mill Road. 

The victim was riding on a trail with two friends when he came across a large puddle of water on the trail and apparently lost control of the vehicle after hitting the puddle, causing the ATV to flip over.
