Middlesex County Has A Host Of Events Lined Up In October

An array of diverse events will celebrate art, culture and community.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — The Arts Institute of Middlesex County is hosting an array of arts and culture events on October, offering diverse performances, exhibits, and programs for the community to enjoy.

These events are free, and open to the public.

  • Middlesex County 4-H Haunted House and Hayride: The Middlesex County 4-H Haunted House and Hayride takes place every Friday and Saturday in October at the 4-H Center, located at 645 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Guests can experience a night of thrills and fun at this family-friendly event, which features a haunted house and a hayride. Tickets are required to attend.
  • Middlesex County 4-H Open House: Middlesex County 4-H and the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County invites the community to the 4-H Open House on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the 4-H Youth Center located at 645 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. Attendees will be able to learn about the 4-H program, explore available clubs, and discover how to get involved as adult volunteers. 4-H fosters youth development through citizenship, healthy living, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) initiatives.
  • Hometown Pride - The Power of Sports: The Cornelius Low House Museum will host the latest exhibition, Hometown Pride: The Power of Sports. The exhibit’s opening day is Sunday, Oct. 6, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cornelius Low House Museum located at 1225 River Road, Piscataway. This exhibit will feature a wide array of memorabilia, highlighting the County’s rich sports history—from Little League triumphs to high school and college victories, and the accomplishments of Olympians, Paralympians, and professional athletes. The exhibit commemorates Middlesex County’s sports legacy, including the first-ever college football game between Rutgers and Princeton. With various sports represented, the exhibit has something to inspire and engage all ages.
  • Penny Pinching Preservation: On Sunday, October 13, from 2 pm to 3 pm, community members, local historians, and heritage professionals are invited to East Jersey Old Town Village to attend the Penny Pinching Preservation, an interactive session led by Dyani Feigi, Director of Preservation Services at the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA). Dyani will share practical, cost-effective strategies for collection care and environmental policies for those working with limited budgets and skill sets. Participants will learn hands-on techniques and gain insights from Dyani’s extensive experience working with organizations of all sizes.   • Finding Aid Follies: Local historians, librarians, and archival professionals are invited to attend Finding Aid Follies, a workshop led by Tara Maharjan of the New Jersey State Archives. The workshop will take place on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at East Jersey Old Town Village, at 1050 River Road. Tara will focus on arrangement and description techniques for archival collections, emphasizing the development of effective finding aids to improve collection access. Attendees will receive a beginner’s overview of processing strategies that can streamline their work and ensure collections are easier to use and navigate.   • Fall Harvest Festival: The Fall Harvest Festival is taking place on Oct. 25-27 and Nov. 1-3 at East Jersey Old Town Village (EJOTV) located at 1050 River Road, Piscataway. The event offers a fun-filled day of autumn activities for the whole family. Visitors can enjoy hot cider, wagon rides, seasonal crafts, pumpkin picking, and live performances by the Young American Serenaders and Robert Mouland. The event will feature an expanded General Store with extended hours, offering pies, cider, donuts, homemade jelly, and more.
