SBHS Students Take 2nd in Marketing Contest

Students honored for concert idea in Six Flags Great Adventure's Marketing Challenge.

South Brunswick High School Marketing students Julianne Erdi, Aubrey Thomas, and Catherine Gottfried from Christina Santowasso's class, along with student Felicia Zikria from and Peri Sokol's Fashion Marketing class, recently came in second place in the Six Flags Great Adventure Marketing Challenge.

The students, who took second out of over 50 entries, were rewarded with passes to Hurricane Harbor.

Santowasso divided her Marketing class into 10 groups, and students from Sokol's class were paired with a group. Each group was assigned the task to create a marketing plan for a Battle of the Bands Music Festival to take place at Six Flags Great Adventure.

Entries were sent to Six Flags and winners were announced on May 2 during a conference on Business and Marketing Day at the theme park. The second place winning group from South Brunswick High School named their concert Kryptonite.

The idea centered around a music festival featuring both alternative rock and rap groups in the battle of the bands event.

The idea stood out with two music genres appealing to varied target audiences. The idea also merged the use of social media with traditional marketing through Six Flags' relationships with advertisers like WaWa and Dunkin' Donuts.
