Why are you seeking a seat on the Board of Education?
As a dedicated parent and resident of South Brunswick, I am deeply committed to making a meaningful and positive impact on our community and the well-being of our children.
What, according to you, is the biggest issue facing the school district?
In my opinion, the most pressing issue currently facing our school district is the search for a new superintendent. This leadership position is vital, especially given the district's reputation and the recent challenges we've encountered, including financial difficulties and a surge in student enrollment. Addressing these concerns with a capable leader at the helm is essential for our district's future success.
As new housing comes in and enrollment grows, the school district is grappling with redistricting. Do you have any suggestions on how the district could handle this?
We need to evaluate each school, its current enrollment, and its capacity. Strategically placing new students without compromising the quality of education and support for staff is essential during these impactful times.
Are you happy with the way the district handled state aid cuts and budget issues? What would be your approach?
While the district has done an admirable job with the resources at its disposal, I believe there is room for improvement. Simplifying the broader structure is challenging without full visibility into the decisions and contributing factors. My approach would involve a thorough review of the budget and collaborating with relevant committees to prioritize and develop solutions for areas of concern. These are not easy tasks and require time, effort, and manpower. I am committed to diligently investing in this process to ensure that our schools are well-supported and our students receive the best possible education.
What other issues do you feel need to be tackled in the school district?
We need to prioritize the allocation of resources for both students and staff, ensuring that funds are effectively distributed. Additionally, implementing programs that incorporate artificial intelligence and other innovative tools will significantly enhance the educational experience for our students.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
This is my first time pursuing this form of service. Previously, I have served in the Parent-Teacher Organization and other non-school-related programs for children. I believe that a united community focused on the success of our children is paramount. I am driven by a genuine concern for the children and community. As a parent invested in this community for years to come, I bring an organic perspective with no agenda beyond the betterment of our kids and one community.
Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself or your campaign?
Running for this position is a decision I have considered deeply and learned about thoroughly in my pursuit of further involvement. I am profoundly grateful to my fellow candidates, Laura Hernandez, Alisha Khan, Barry Nathanson, and Deven Patel, who have been invaluable resources and have shared their wealth of knowledge about our children and the community. They bring a wealth of experience that comes with time, overcoming challenges, and weathering many storms along the way. I endorse their candidacy as they possess both the expertise and the competence to effectively address the challenges confronted by the South Brunswick district.
