South Brunswick Water May Have Chlorine Taste In February Due To Maintenance

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — The water in South Brunswick may have a slight taste of chlorine in February as New Jersey American Water conducts its annual maintenance.

The routine maintenance program will take place the week of February 10, 2025, through mid-April, and consists of temporarily shifting from using chloramine to free chlorine.

“During this period, some customers may notice a slight taste and smell of chlorine in their water. This is normal and will only be temporary until the system maintenance is complete. If customers experience this, the company suggests placing water in an uncovered pitcher in the refrigerator overnight to allow the chlorine to dissipate,” NJ American Water said.

The temporary change in the water treatment process will take place at its Raritan-Millstone Water Treatment Plant in Bridgewater and its Canal Road Water Treatment Plant in Somerset.

This change in treatment helps ensure the continued safety and reliability of water quality throughout the distribution system.

Throughout the maintenance period, New Jersey American Water will continue to monitor water quality in the system to provide water to customers that meets or surpasses federal and state drinking water standards.
