SPRINGFIELD, NJ — There will be an overnight lane closure on Main Street/CR 577 in Union County Friday night, as the bridge deck replacement project advances in Springfield, according to NJDOT.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, and continuing until 5 a.m. on Saturday, NJDOT’s contractor, Kyle Conti Construction, is scheduled to close the southbound lane on Main Street/CR 577 between Bleeker Street and Springfield Avenue with alternating traffic using the northbound lane.

This closure is necessary to remove the construction barrier and install drums in preparation for a traffic shift next week, according to NJDOT.

The $8.2 million Main Street/CR 577 Bridge over I-78 project will replace the existing bridge deck, which is in poor condition. In addition to replacing the deck, the project includes the installation of new overhead sign structures on I-78 and new guiderails.

The project is being constructed in stages to minimize impact to traffic, NJDOT stated.

In addition to replacing the bridge deck, the project will demolish and reconstruct the north and south abutments, relocate utility poles and install new overhead sign structures. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2023.

Variable Message Signs are also being used to provide advance notification of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge project. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
