I-78 Westbound Express In Springfield Closed Tonight, Road Work
All lanes on the I-78 westbound express will be closed Friday night due to construction work for the Main Street bridge replacement project.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The I-78 westbound express will be closed tonight as the Main Street bridge deck replacement project advances in Springfield, according to the NJ Department of Transportation.
Beginning at 11 p.m. on Friday night and until 6 a.m. Saturday morning, all lanes are scheduled to close on the I-78 westbound express between mileposts 51 and 50.2. Drivers on the express will be shifted to the I-78 westbound local lanes at the crossover ramp for Route 24 west to I-287/Springfield/Morristown.
The ramp from Route 124/Springfield Avenue to I-78 westbound express also will be closed, with all drivers directed to take the ramp to I-78 westbound local, which comes up before the ramp to I-78 westbound express.

I-78 westbound local will have a few temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic between midnight and 4 a.m. State Police will assist with the traffic stoppages.
These closures will allow the contractor to install an overhead sign as part of the project to replace the Main Street Bridge over I-78, as well install new guiderails. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2022.
