Maplewood Glee Club Brings Heart & Humor - “The Bright Side” Concert

Local men's chorus prepares family-friendly spring concert for Sunday, May 7th in Maplewood.

They say in life you should always look on the bright side. The Maplewood Glee Club will be doing exactly that on Sunday, May 7th at 4pm at their annual spring concert entitled “The Bright Side.” The show is a collection of uplifting songs about hope and optimism and features crowd-pleasers like “Here Comes the Sun,” “Lean on Me,” “Blue Skies,” “For Good” from the Broadway musical Wicked, and – of course – Monty Python’s “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.”

Known for their unique blend of harmony and good humor, the Maplewood Glee Club will also welcome two special guest choirs from Columbia High School – Canens Vocem and Excelsior Singers. Soprano Sophie Havens, recipient of the 2023 John A. Plumer Memorial Scholarship, will also perform as well as conduct the group on one of their songs.

"We’re thrilled to have such talented performers joining us for this concert," said Josh Adler, the Glee Club's president. "It’ll be an afternoon of good music, good fun, and lots of surprises. The good kind, of course!"

In addition to the special guests, the Glee Club's two small groups, the Unusual Suspects and the Doo-Wop Preservation Society, will perform their own renditions of songs from the bright side like Billy Joel’s “River of Dreams” and “Mama Said” by the Shirelles.

“The Bright Side” takes place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 767 Prospect Street in Maplewood, Sunday, May 7 at 4pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at https://tinyurl.com/MGCSpring23tix. The show will also be livestreamed.

Founded in 1946, the Maplewood Glee Club is New Jersey’s longest-running men’s chorus, with 45 members representing dozens of North Jersey towns. For more about the club, visit their website at www.maplewoodgleeclub.com or email info@maplewoodgleeclub.com.
