NJDOT To Close Springfield Ave./Route 124 Ramp Friday Night

The ramp, as well as the right lane on I-78 westbound local, will be closed Friday night as workers repair the concrete deck on the ramp.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — The Springfield Avenue/Route 124 westbound ramp will be closed and detoured in Union Township Friday night, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

In addition to the closure of the ramp, the right lane on I-78 westbound local will be closed tonight.

Beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Saturday, NJDOT’s contractor, Mount Construction Co., Inc., is scheduled to make concrete deck repairs to the ramp. The ramp from Springfield Avenue/Route 124 westbound to I-78 westbound Express will remain open during construction.

One lane on Main Street/CR 577 between Springfield Avenue and Bleeker Street will also be closed Friday night. This closure is necessary to restripe the bridge and remove construction barrier.

Springfield Avenue/Route 124 westbound to Route 24 westbound:

  • Drivers on Springfield Avenue/Route 124 westbound wishing to take the ramp to Route 24 westbound/Morristown will be directed to continue on Springfield Avenue/Route 124 westbound
  • Stay left to take the jughandle to Route 124 eastbound/Route 24 westbound, just past the Morris Avenue Intersection
  • Continue on Route 124 eastbound and cross over I-78
  • Stay right to take the ramp to I-78 westbound to Route 24/Morristown/Clinton
  • Stay right to take the Exit 48 ramp to Route 24 westbound to I-287/Springfield/Morristown

The work is part of a $21.6 million state-funded maintenance project to repair concrete structures at various locations in eight counties throughout North Jersey.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
