Another worker was just a few feet away, but uninjured, according to Staunton.
The fire was quickly extinguished and firefighters spent time clearing the large amount of smoke from the floor. Because the 7th floor was under renovation, there were no patients in that area, Staunton told Patch.
The Summit First Aid Squad initially responded with 3 ambulances and 8 members. 11 off duty members also responded along with ambulance crews from New Providence and Springfield.
Summit Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Millburn, Springfield, and Union fire departments, according to Cairns.
