Safety Concerns Eliminate Some Parking In Summit: See Where

Dangerous turns and visibility issues called for a change.

SUMMIT, NJ — Parking is no longer allowed in a number of areas across the city after Ordinance 25-3365 was unanimously approved by Summit Common Council on Dec. 16.

The parking code was amended following recommendations from both the Summit Police Department and the Department of Community Service.

Ongoing safety issues, such as visibility while trying to leave certain spots and oncoming traffic while trying to make a left turn along others, called for the change, according to Councilmember Jamel Boyer.

Parking is prohibited in the following areas:

  • Along the north side of Bedford Road from the west property line of 22 Bedford Rd. to Morris Avenue
  • Along the south side of Broad Street from Ashwood Avenue to Park Avenue
  • Along the east side of New England Avenue, between the parking lot for Christ Church to the driveway for 59 New England Ave. One parking space north and south of both driveways will also be prohibited.
  • Along the south side of Weaver Street between the exit from Summit High School to the driveway for 46 Weaver St.

The area near Christ Church will be looked at further, Boyer said, after a member of the public voiced concerns about parking already being limited during certain times of the week. Among the issues were parking on Sundays for services and other events during the week.
