2 Cars Stolen From Summit Homes Last Week: Police
A Mercedes Benz and a Jeep Wrangler were both stolen from Summit residences last week, according to the city's police blotter.
SUMMIT, NJ — Two car thefts were reported in Summit last week, as well as some suspicious behavior, according to Summit Police.
In both instances where cars were stolen from Summit residences, the cars were left unlocked with the key fobs inside.
The first theft occurred on Tuesday, June 21 when a silver 2021 Mercedes Benz GLS wagon, valued at $80,000, was stolen from a residence on Colt Road, according to the police blotter.

The resident told police that the incident occurred between 3 and 4:30 p.m. that day. The car was left unlocked with they key fob inside, police said.
Then on Sunday, June 26, a black 2019 Jeep Wrangler, valued at $36,000, was reported stolen from a Parkview Terrace residents. The incident occurred overnight at around 1:38 a.m.

Again, the car was left unlocked with they fob left inside.
In related news, a resident told Summit Police about a suspicious vehicle on Fernwood Road on Saturday afternoon. A short time later, police saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, leaving Summit on Route 24 east at Summit Ave.
Police later determined that the vehicle, described as a black 2021 BMW M340i, with a New York license plate, had been reported stolen earlier that same morning in Long Branch.
Three teenagers were also recently arrested in Summit for attempting to steal a car.
