As the recovery period continues for the City of Summit in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there are still major safety concerns throughout the city:
Traffic Intersections – traffic signals are still not operating at all intersections within the city and while they have portable stop signs in place, please continue to slow down as you approach them and proceed with caution with regard to other vehicles and pedestrians. Each day, the traffic flow has significantly increased on the city roadways, but the safety concerns are still present, so please use caution.
Neighbors – please take the time to check on your neighbor’s well-being, especially the senior citizens who may not be receiving the Nixle and or Code Red alerts. While we all have our issues, let’s make sure everyone is safe as the nights get cooler.
Generators and Portable Grills/Stoves – please continue to utilize generators, portable grills and stoves OUTSIDE away from open windows. Many carbon monoxide and fire alarms may not activate if electrical power to the house is out and they are not on battery back-up.
Downed Wires and Trees - there are still live wires down throughout the city as well as unsettled trees. Please continue to use extreme caution when walking around your neighborhood and the city.
Warming and Charging Station – the Summit Middle School is still open for warmth and the ability to charge your electrical devices. We ask that you bring your own snacks, reusable cups, patience and a desire to help out if needed.
NJAWC – there are rumors abound that the water may be shut off and that is UNTRUE. The NJAWC assures us that is not the case and never has been.

Throughout the past few days, we continue to see the City of Summit and its residents working together and remaining calm, which is so vital to us all getting through this event.
