Here's a description of the program:
The program will start on May 29, 2012 and end on June 22, 2012. Morning discussions are at 8:00am and the mentorships will begin at 9:00am. Friday mentorships will be in the morning at a time discussed with your mentor for that day. There will be a luncheon conference from Noon to 1:30pm. The program does not require Saturday or Sunday attendance.
Each day, Monday through Thursday, begins with a one-hour breakfast discussion led by a healthcare professional who will discuss his or her field. The remainder of the day, each intern will spend time shadowing his/her assigned mentor of the day. Fridays will consist of a half-day mentorship with a lunch session where interns will be able to share experiences and discuss topics of interest.
And here's some feedback shared with the program directors from Mona Gossman, a graduate of Summit High School and currently studying at Princeton University:
I had volunteered [at Overlook Hospital] during high school and previously shadowed nurses, so I was expecting to spend the summer sneaking looks to see what the doctor was doing. I Googled "Overlook Hospital internship" and the first hit I found was the one for OHIP. Reading over the description, I found myself becoming more and more enthusiastic about the program and decided to apply. This program was exactly what I was looking for: the opportunity to spend time with physicians and to finally experience what the average doctor's day is like.
