Stakeholders Explore Ideas to Improve Downtown Summit

The City of Summit and Edward J. Snieckus of Burgis Associates, the city’s planning contractors, hosted a town hall meeting Wednesday night in Council Chambers to gain feedback and ideas from business owners and residents regarding plans to improve the downtown area.

The Common Council on Tuesday made good on its long-range capital improvement plan by approving bond ordinances to fund two road projects and other purchases. In all, the council voted to issue $2.4 million in bonds and to take $358,800 from surplus capital funds to fund the projects and purchases.

This daylong festival will serve as the kickoff event for the weeklong 'Discover Summit Arts Festival,' which will feature more than 40 events all across the city through this Saturday.

Summit Police Offer Free Gun Safety Locks

The Summit Police Department wants gun owners in the Hill City to keep their weapons safe. On Thursday, the department announced that it will give free gun safety locks to any resident who asks for one.

Summit Lacrosse Player Named All-American

Stuart Humphrey, a senior standout on the Summit High School lacrosse team, was recently named an All-American for her performance this past season, according to U.S. Lacrosse. Another Summit resident, Claire Cagnassola, a senior at Oak Knoll School, was also named a U.S. Lacrosse All-American.

Summit Says Goodbye to Longtime School Employees

The school district said farewell to Washington School teachers Natalie Cassidy and Carol Groote; Jefferson School secretary Diane Gleason; Jefferson School custodian John Cavallaro and business office staffer Nancy Bowkley.

About 80 percent of those who responded to the survey said they are 'satisfied' with overall education provided by the district.
