Extreme Heat In Summit This Week: Here's Where To Cool Off
Summit will see oppressive temperatures this week. Patch rounded up a list of local pools and spray parks to cool off and escape the heat.
SUMMIT, NJ — It's a hot one in Summit this week, with temperatures reaching the high 90s and heat index values as high as 106, according to the National Weather Service.
One step outside, and you'll want to immediately jump in a pool. Luckily, there are several local pools and spray parks in the Summit area for residents to enjoy on these hot summer days.
A heat advisory is in effect for all of Union County until 8 p.m. on Thursday. There is also an air quality alert for the county, according to the NWS.

- Summit Family Aquatic Center: 100 Ashwood Ave, Summit
The Summit Family Aquatic Center boasts an award-winning facility, recognized for both design and programming by the New Jersey Recreation and Parks Association as well as Aquatics International. Non-resident memberships are also available for the 2022 season.
However, a membership is required and day passes are not available. Guests must be present with a member of the facility if they wish to swim.
- Summit Area YMCA: 490 Morris Ave., Summit
The Summit Y has two heated 25-yard pools available year-round. A membership at the Y also gives you access to the Berkeley Heights YMCA.
The Berkeley Heights offers an olympic-sized heated outdoor pool, a zero entry kiddie pool, diving boards, lounge chairs, playground, picnic area and much more. A water slide is also coming soon, according to the website.

- The Connection: 79 Maple St., Summit
The Connection offers a five lane, 25 yard indoor pool year-round. Those interested in lap swim can go during select hours throughout the day and evening. The pool is free for total facility members.
Water exercise, such as high-energy aerobics, private swim lessons and senior swim are also available at The Connection.
The facility also offers a fitness center, a gymnasium, playgrounds and more.

- The Westfield Memorial Pool and Aquatic Complex: 713 Cumberland St., Westfield
Right nearby in Westfield, the town pool is open to both Westfield and non-Westfield residents.
The Pool Complex offers a large main 50-meter pool that is 165' x 75', a diving pool with two diving boards, an eight-lane competitive lap pool, two large water slides, a two-foot children's pool, a zero-entry children's training pool, a newly renovated splash pad, a snack bar, a picnic area, a private playground and large grass areas.

- Union County's Wheeler Spray Park: 234 W Stimpson Ave, Linden
If you're looking for a fun place for kids to run around and simultaneously escape the oppressing heat, definitely check out this massive spray park in Linden.
The park is centrally located and has a secure rubber surface area to prevent kids from slipping.
This is the McDaddy of New Jersey spray parks, with a dragon, a pirate ship, a dumping bucket, waterfalls the kids can hide under and even two water slides. There are also picnic gazebos and clean bathrooms on site.
- Life Time Fitness: 25 Connell Dr. in Berkeley Heights
Life Time is a luxury gym and offers both indoor and outdoor lap and leisure pools. The outdoor pool includes a large waterslide and the indoor pool has a spray fountain for kids to play in.
It also includes expansive workout floor, group fitness studios, dedicated kids spaces and much more.
