As you are probably aware, the Board of Education has spent a considerable amount of time discussing the merits and benefits of Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) over the past school year. This discussion led to the information session on FDK presented in a Town Hall format at the Jefferson Primary Center on Jan. 23. That meeting has generated many questions, which will be available in a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document on our website later this week.

However, one question, which needs immediate attention, is whether FDK is included in the 2013-2014 annual operating budget and the answer is no. I want to make sure that there is no confusion related to the upcoming Board of School Estimates meetings scheduled for March, as these meetings specifically deal with the annual operating budget, not FDK or the larger, long-term facilities concerns presently being reviewed by the Board of Education.
