Halloween Safety Suggestions For Trick-Or-Treaters, Homeowners

Stay safe while enjoying the spooky.

SUMMIT NJ — The Summit Police Department is getting the community to make sure spooky is followed with safety this Halloween.

Officials are sharing a number of trick-or-treating suggestions ahead of Friday's neighborhood journeys:

  • Wear bright colors and flame-retardant materials
  • Attach reflective tape to costumes and bags
  • Kids under the age of 12 should be with an adult or older sibling
  • Approach only clearly-lit homes
  • Walk only on the sidewalk
  • Never go in a home or car for a treat
  • Throw away anything that is not sealed, has torn packaging, or otherwise looks questionable

  • Secure tripping hazards like hoses, toys, and bikes
  • Replace burnt-out light bulbs
  • Clear wet leaves from your sidewalk
