High School Spanish Club Holds Event for ESL Program

Fundraiser for ESL program at The Connection for Women and Families brought Colombian dancers to Summit High School.

The colors and dances of Colombia were on display in the cafeteria as part of a fundraiser by the school's Spanish Club. The Jan. 19 event was an international dinner and fundraiser for the ESL program at

The event brought together various Summit High School families and had contributions from the Angelo family, owners of ; the Garcia family, owners of Spanish Tavern in Mountainside, and Pomptonian, the district’s food service corporation. 

Student coordinater's Matt Miller and Ben Toffy, presidents of the Spanish club, and SHS Spanish teacher Mónika Bartlett helped spearhead the dinner. Spanish club participants and their families helped prepare the food for the event. Paper goods were donated by the Student Council, under faculty advisor Winnie Caetta.

The fundraising dinner closed with a group dance led by a Colombia dance troupe, which performed classical dance numbers from the region.
