'It's A Horrible Feeling': Summit Boy Gets Surprise From Police After Bike Was Stolen
The former Summit Police Youth Academy recruit found a new friend in law enforcement this week.

SUMMIT, NJ — Officer David Kotiga made a surprise gift that put a smile on the face of a local kid this week in Summit.
Kieran, a former D.A.R.E. student and Summit Police Youth Academy recruit, had his bike stolen last week while in the City. Kotiga had been reviewing police reports, recognized his name, and knew he had to act.
"It instantly brought me back to when my bike was stolen as a kid. It's a horrible feeling, and I didn't want Kieran to go through that," Kotiga said.

While the police are still looking for a suspect and the stolen bike, that wasn't enough for Kotiga.
After receiving his own new bike recently, he decided to give it to Kieran. Hilltop Bicycle joined the effort and gave the boy a new helmet and safety lock.

"I had a bike I wasn't using," added Kotiga, "and it felt like the right time to help make his day a little better."
Kieran picked up his new gear on Wednesday with his grandmother at police headquarters.
