More Car Thefts, Burglaries In Summit Last Week: Police

Another car was stolen from a Summit business and $400 was taken from an unlocked vehicle last week, according to police.

SUMMIT, NJ — An additional car theft and car burglary occurred last week in Summit, according to the most recent police blotter.

Car thefts in Summit, as well as in many other Union County towns, have been on the rise in recent weeks. More than 20 cars have been stolen in Summit this year to date.

A white 2018 Ford Transit, valued at $30,000, was stolen from a Prospect Street business on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 11:37 a.m., according to Summit Police.

The victim told police that as they were walking away from the van, they saw a man wearing a gray shirt and gray shorts enter the vehicle and drive off. Police said the van was unlocked with the keys left inside.

A car parked on Badeau Avenue was also burglarized sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, police said. The victim told police that unknown individual entered their unlocked car and stole cash from the center console.

The total amount stolen was $400, police said.

In other crime news, a Sunoco gas station in Summit was robbed at gunpoint on Sunday. Police are still looking for the suspects, as they fled from the scene following the robbery.
