Summit Sees 12 Burglary, Theft Reports In September

Last month's police blotter from the Summit Police Department lists 12 reports of burglary or theft.

SUMMIT, NJ — September was a busy month for the Summit Police Department as over 12 reports of burglary or theft came in, as well as several other reports of burglary attempts and forced entry.

The majority of the reports were bicycle thefts of both secured and unsecured bikes throughout town. Several reports mentioned cars that were burglarized or an attempt was made.

The incidents are not new, several police departments in Union County towns have encouraged residents to lock their car doors and report suspicious activity.

Here Is The Rundown From The Blotter:

9/03/2021—At 1527 hours a report was taken for an unsecured stolen bicycle from a Beechwood Road business. Taken was (1) Blue Giant ATX 26-inch bicycle, valued at $510.

9/03/2021—At 1837 hours a report was taken for a secured stolen bicycle from a Maple Street business. The victim stated the incident occurred between 1645 and 1815 hours. Taken was (1) Black Giant mountain bike, valued at $600.

9/10/2021—At 1928 hours a report was taken for an unsecure stolen bicycle from a Beechwood Road business. The victim stated the incident occurred between 1900 and 1928 hours. Taken was (1) gray mountain bike (unknown model) valued at $300.

9/12/2021—At 0934 hours a report was taken for a theft from an unsecured motor vehicle located at a Woodland Avenue residence. The victim stated the incident occurred between 1930 hours on 9/11 and 0915 hours on 9/12. Taken from the vehicle was approximately $100 to $200 in cash.

9/12/2021—At 1725 hours a report was taken for an unsecured stolen bicycle from a Springfield Avenue parking garage. The victim stated the incident occurred between 1500 hours and 1715 hours. Taken was (1) Black mountain bike (unknow model) valued at $500.

9/14/2021—At 0935 hours a report was taken for a burglary to an unsecured motor vehicle located at Hobart Avenue residence. The victim witnessed a young man enter the vehicle and rummage through the glove box and center console. At the time of the report nothing was determined to be taken.

9/14/2021—At 1937 hours a report was taken for a theft from a Deforest Avenue business. The victim stated an individual entered the business at 1920 hours and left without purchasing merchandise. The individual is described as a black male, approximately 40 years of age, wearing a baseball cap, black shirt, pants, and shoes. Taken was an undisclosed amount of toothpaste.

9/15/2021—Ronald Jones, 58, of Irvington was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking. Mr. Jones was processed and released with a pending court date.

9/23/2021—At 1900 hours a report was taken for a stolen motor vehicle from a Morris Avenue
business. The victim stated the incident occurred at approximately 1810 hours. Taken was a 2018 silver Infinity Q50, valued at $36,000.

9/23/2021—At 1913 hours a report was taken for an unsecure stolen bicycle from a Deforest Avenue business. The victim stated the incident occurred within minutes of leaving the bicycle to enter the business. Taken was (1) black and red Giant mountain bike valued at $200 and (1) black bicycle helmet valued at $50.

9/24/2021—At 1909 hours a report was taken for an unsecured stolen bicycle from a Springfield Avenue business. The victim stated that the incident occurred within 15 minutes of leaving the bicycle to enter the business. Taken was (1) red Giant mountain bike valued at $200 and (1) black bicycle helmet valued at $50.

9/25/2021—At 1814 hours a report was taken for a secured stolen bicycle from a Union Place location. The victim stated the incident occurred between 1700 hours and 1800 hours on 9/25. Taken was (1) silver 21 speed Gray Trek bicycle valued at $500 and (1) bicycle helmet valued at $50.

9/27/2021—At 0756 hours a report was taken for an unsecured stolen motor vehicle located at an
Ashland Road residence. The victim stated the incident occurred between 1800 hours and 1900 hours on 9/26. Taken was a black 2018 BMW X6, no value was given at the time of the report.

9/30/2021—At 2114 hours a report was taken for a burglary to a Prospect Hill Avenue residence. The victim stated the incident occurred between 1900 hours and 2100 hours on 9/30. At the time of the report a full accounting of the stolen items was not available.
