Summit Council To Recognize Members, Hear Mayor's Address: See When (patch.com) — Summit residents are invited to City Hall on January 6, 2026, for the annual Organization Meeting, including a reception and the mayor’s State of the City address. New councilmembers will be sworn in, retiring members and board volunteers will be honored, and appointments to city boards and committees will be announced, with the event also broadcast on local channels and YouTube.

2. Six Fire Departments in Central Jersey Share $510,531 Federal Grant (tapinto.net) — Summit’s fire department is receiving a $75,000 federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant, which Mayor Elizabeth Fagan says will directly improve safety for residents. The grant is part of more than $500,000 secured for six departments in New Jersey’s 7th District, funding new protective gear, radios, and training to better equip local first responders.

Local artist inspired at Summit tobacco lounge (unionnewsdaily.com) — A Maplewood artist has been spending his semi-retirement painting regulars at Florez Tobacconist in Summit, turning the lounge’s tight-knit group into a Dutch Old Masters–style portrait series. He says the Summit hangout’s stories, friendships, and diverse backgrounds fuel his daily painting practice and broader portrait work.

Banker from Monmouth County planning to join NJ-7 Dem primary (newjerseyglobe.com) — A Monmouth County banker, Giancarlo Simonetti, is exploring a run in the crowded Democratic primary to challenge Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in NJ-7. The race already includes several candidates, and briefly included former Summit Councilman Greg Vartan, highlighting Summit’s continuing political connection to this competitive district.
